Because Magazine Entry

A friend of mine runs Because magazine, a magazine aiming to promote new artists and designers through creating individual work based on an overall theme found throughout each magazine. The latest edition is to be based on the theme of 'Rael is Real' which is based on unique religious belief. I chose to create this typography based piece based on the concept of us being created in the image of the 'Elohim', or in over words, Gods, playing with the idea of them being us and us being them, together as one. I chose to feature the radial background to represent a form of mesmerising sci-fi communication and the transport of the message being merged into one, portraying the type as if it had been adjusted a few times before being the correct message as if it were the communication of a higher being aiming to get it right.

A Series of book covers created for the Orion Books Brief as part of the D&AD awards.

Illustrated Lyrics

A typography based piece taken from a larger project, created with the aim of capturing the way the words are sang within the song and presenting them using typography creatively to illustrate this. Placing emphasis on particular words that are emphasised on within the song and giving less to those that carry it along. When The Sun Goes down by Arctic Monkeys is one of my favourite songs and I will intend to develop and experiment with the idea of illustrated music lyrics.

Spraff Mag

This was a group project consisting of eight members and we were set the brief to create a 32-page magazine. We had to decide on the subject matter of the magazine, the layout, the typefaces used, the featured imagery and content, it was all in our hands. We decided to base the magazine on scrounging illustrated by the mag name 'Spraff', northern slang for scrounger. The magazine addressed ways of saving money and scrounging to survive through using illustrated techniques within the mag and featured stories of people who have scrounged, abused and scammed systems to survive. Also becoming a lighthearted approach to the recession with humorous editorial to brighten up this depressing time.
